Change the Value data to 2. The default Value data is probably 1. Whatever the Value data is, just change it to 2.

Like I said before, many skaters, including myself, use Bones Speed Cream to grease their bearings. It’s really cheap, and one bottle lasts a long time. If you put 3 or 4 drops of this stuff in your bearings, it will feel like you’re riding a brand-new skateboard.

When you think about how a bearing works, it’s easy to see why lubricating them helps improve speed. There are a few steel balls inside a bearing that move along an inner and an outer race. As they move along what are called “races,” the outer rings, friction is made, which makes rolling resistance.

When a bearing isn’t properly oiled, the surface the balls roll on has more friction, which makes it harder for the bearing to turn. After being oiled, the races have a thin layer of oil on them that helps the bearing balls roll smoothly with much less friction than before.

This lubrication wears out over time, which is why you should keep lubricating your bearings to get the best performance. If you skate a lot, you should grease your skateboard bearings every three to six weeks. That will make sure that your wheels always spin fast and smoothly.

Before you think you can use other lubricants like WD-40, you should think about what kind of lubricant it is. Lubricants that aren’t made of silicone, like WD-40, will dry out your bearings and make them attract more dirt and dust. Long-term, these lubricants will do more harm than good, so it’s best to stay away from them.


Lubricating your bearings won’t help much if they haven’t been cleaned properly in a while. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to clean your bearings, and you can do it at home with a few things from the hardware store. In another post, I go into more detail about how to clean your bearings, but let’s start with the basics.


Using a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and a small plastic container, put enough cleaning solution in the container to cover your bearings. After popping the bearings out of the wheels and taking off the shield, put the bearings in the isopropyl alcohol and swish them around.

After letting them sit for a minute or two, take out the bearings and pat them dry with a paper towel. Once the bearings are dry, add a few drops of your preferred silicone-based lubricant, such as Bones Speed Cream. Slowly turn them so that the lubricant can get to every part of the bearing.

Once this is done with all of your bearings, you can put the bearing shield back on and put the bearings back into your wheels.


When you clean your bearings, you get rid of any dirt and dust that could be getting in the way. Anything that stops the bearing ball from turning will slow down the speed at which your wheels spin. So, if you want your skateboard to go faster, you should always give it a deep clean like this.


Even if your bearings are clean and well-oiled, an axle nut that is too tight can make your wheels spin very slowly. When the nut is too tight, it squeezes the bearings so much that they can’t spin freely. Because of this, your skateboard wheels won’t go very fast and won’t spin for very long.

If you grab your wheel and try to move it, you can see if this is the problem. Your axle nut is too tight if it can’t move from side to side along the axle. In an ideal situation, your wheel should be able to move slightly along the axle and make a “clicking” sound when you try to move it.

Grab a skate tool or a 1/2-inch socket and turn the axle nut counterclockwise until the wheel can move a little bit. Now do this again for every wheel that seems too tight.

After this easy fix, your skateboard wheels will spin much faster because the axle nut won’t be holding them down.


If you’ve cleaned and oiled your bearings and loosened all your axle nuts, but your wheels still aren’t going as fast as you’d like, it may be time to get bigger wheels. Larger wheels go faster than smaller wheels with the same speed because there is more rotational force and contact area with the ground.

To put it simply, a bigger wheel moves over more ground with each turn than a smaller wheel. That’s because as the wheel diameter gets bigger, there’s more surface area.

When the wheel spins, a bigger wheel has more force on the way the bearings turn, which lets it pick up speed faster than a smaller wheel. Think about a teeter-totter and how it’s easier to lift the other side up the lower you are. This is an example of leverage, and it’s similar to what a bigger wheel does when you turn your bearing.

For a normal skateboard, choose wheels with a diameter between 53mm and 55mm. Compared to smaller wheels, this will make a noticeable difference in speed, even if you never clean your bearings.


Not all bearings are made the same, and if you use cheap bearings, you are limited by the materials they are made of. Standard for bearing speeds is the ABEC rating system, and most standard high-quality skateboard bearings are ABEC-5.

Now you can upgrade these to ABEC-7 or ceramic bearings, which are made of different materials and can spin faster under load than ABEC-5 bearings. This rating jump comes with a big price increase, which makes it less appealing to most skaters. Even more so when you think about how quickly this difference in speed can disappear as a bearing gets dirty.

You might be wondering how in the hell you can control it. A regular skateboard moves because the rider pushes the ground with his or her feet. You can also stop by using your feet.

But how do you stop when you’re on an electric skateboard?

Yes, there are brakes on electric skateboards.

You can go 30 mph or even faster on an e-board.

Going that fast without anything to stop you wouldn’t make much sense. If that were true, riders would get hurt and there would be a lot of lawsuits against the companies that make e-boards.

How do you stop when you’re riding an electric skateboard?

It is pretty easy to stop on an electric skateboard.

In fact, you only need to use the remote!

Yes, almost all electric skateboards (there are a few exceptions) have remotes you can hold in your hand that let you:

It takes practice to learn how to ride and stop on an electric skateboard, just like with anything else in life.

But don’t worry, once you’ve been on a few rides, you’ll start to get the hang of it.

During my first practice runs, there were times when I couldn’t control my speed and distance well enough to stop in time. I tried to slow down too quickly, and the board stopped, but I didn’t.

When I was going too fast down a hill, I couldn’t stop in time and crashed into a wooden fence.

Don’t forget that you are not attached to the board like you are in a car or other vehicle. There isn’t a safety belt! If you stop the board too quickly, your body will keep moving at the speed it was going.

I learned this rule because I found out that a lot of skaters and motorcyclists use it.

It should only be used when you’re sure your e-board brakes won’t save you.

Even though it’s not the best safety tip, it could keep you from getting hurt badly.

What’s the main idea? If you can’t stop in time to avoid hitting something, get off your board.

Yes, you’re right… I said ‘JUMP!’

It’s never safe to bail, but if you have to jump off to avoid hitting a moving car, pole, tree, or other heavy object, do it!

Here’s a story about a motorcycle rider who wasn’t able to stop in time and had to use the “Bailing” Rule.

Lesson Learned: A friend of my dad’s had just bought a motorcycle. The first time he used his new toy, he raced up a long hill. He didn’t know that there was a long line of cars on the other side of the hill. He was going too fast and didn’t see the car at the top. He only had a second to decide what to do, so he said “screw it” and ran away. He fell off and hurt himself when he landed in someone’s driveway. On the other hand, his bike was damaged when it hit the back of someone’s car.

What’s the lesson? Bail if you must. Baiting is based on the idea that it’s better to fall or jump on your own terms than to crash and not be able to control anything.

No matter what, it’s always best to be in charge of the board and stop safely if you can. This rule won’t have to be followed.

I have jumped out of a car once when I was going almost 20 mph and about to hit a curb. I only got a few cuts and bruises when I hit the ground. Who knows what would have happened if I hadn’t left?
